New Release í Gerðarsafni í Kópavogi

Íslenski flatukórinn er hluti af verkinu Relief sem sjá má á sýningunni New Release sem stendur nú yfir í Gerðarsafni í Kópavogi. New Relese var opnuð sem hluti af listahátíðinni Cycle sem var haldin í fyrsta skipti í ágústmánuði síðastliðnum.

Niðurlag Nadims Sammans sýningarstjóra um sýninguna hljóðar svo:

„... Þegar við skoðum alheimstónlist og allar hennar birtingarmyndir, hvað skilur á milli hljófæris og upplifunar - þess mannlega og hins ómannlega? NEW RELEASE spilar með þessar hugmyndir“

Verkið er samstarfsverkefni tónskáldsins Þráinns Hjálmarssonar og listamannsins Sigðurar Guðjónssonar. Jóhannes Dagsson skrifar um verkið:

"Mass that reshapes itself into a group of individuals, but only for a few moments. For a few moments we can sense the causal relationship between player and sound, for a moment we are looking at a picture of individuals performing in harmony, but quickly the mass takes over the image again. Now it is not only vision but the other senses as well that are being affected. The sculpting, the demarcation between ground and subject takes the form of sound and image carving out a space for the next event to take place."
